About

History

For the last 67 years, this organization has been working to improve lives in LaGrange and the West Georgia area.

First as the United Fund Appeal, then as the United Way of the LaGrange Area and finally in 1990 as the United Way of West Georgia, Inc. we have been working to support and improve the quality of life for all citizens in this area. The United Way of West Georgia is led by a Board of Directors, of local volunteers who care deeply about this community. They employ a President who with her staff run the day to day operations of the organization.

The United Way of West Georgia is one of 1250 local United Ways in the United States affiliated with United Way Worldwide. United Way Worldwide has membership standards which every United Way must adhere to in order to be licensed to use the United Way Brand. Each United Way is autonomous, in that they support the local organizations their board selects, they are registered with their Secretary of State and they are certified as a 501(c)(3) organization.

Currently, the United Way of West Georgia supports 23 local nonprofit organizations. Through the annual allocation process, the United Way of West Georgia facilitates a citizen review of all of the organizations they fund. Individuals are encouraged to volunteer to participate in this process where they learn about the inner workings of the funded organizations. This process occurs every February.
